BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — Envoys from 28 EU member-countries agreed on Wednesday that Estonia will preside in the EU Council in the second half of 2017 to replace Britain, Preben Aamann, a spokesman for European Council president, said.
UK Prime Minister Theresa May has announced that Britain will give up its rotating six-month presidency of the EU in 2017 to concentrate on Brexit.
According to Aamann, the Estonian presidency will begin six months ahead of schedule and the timeline for following presidencies will be shifted accordingly.
