BERLIN (Sputnik) – German Federal Intelligence Service (BND) spied on a "low two-digit number" of heads of states and governments and ministers of EU and NATO countries as well as their residencies, headquarters, bureaus and military facilities until the end of 2013, local media reported Monday.

The data were provided by the DPA news agency that cited assessments of the parliament’s body for control over intelligence services.

Last April, an espionage scandal gripped Germany as local media uncovered that the BND had provided technical assistance to the US National Security Agency (NSA) in spying on European targets, including top political figures and corporations. The BND is believed to have spied on some 800,000 IP addresses, phone numbers and email addresses at the request of US intelligence.

In October, it was revealed that the BND had been spying on EU and US government agencies and embassies for years.

In 2013, the BND made a decision to stop spying on EU member states and NATO but, according to the German publication, some of those targets are still being monitored.
