Iraqi Army Retakes Train Station in Fallujah
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Iraqi military has regained control of about a third of Fallujah’s territory from Daesh, US Department of Defense spokesman Matthew Allen told Sputnik on Tuesday.

"Approximately 1/3 of the city of Fallujah has been cleared by Iraqi-led ground forces," Allen stated. “The rest of the city remains contested and we will continue to support the Government of Iraq in eliminating ISIL [Islamic State] from Fallujah.”

On June 17, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Abadi declared Fallujah liberated from the terrorists.

Fallujah, located some 42 miles west of the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, is one of the largest cities in the Iraqi Anbar province, and has been controlled by Daesh, which is outlawed in a number of countries including Russia and the United States, since 2014.
