The Sweden parliament is set to hold a vote on tougher asylum and residency rules on Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — If the lawmakers vote in favor of the temporary law, which makes the process of moving to the country for asylum seekers more complicated, will come into effect from July 20 and remain in force for three years.

Under the law, asylum seekers will receive temporary residence permits instead of permanent ones. The legislation will also toughen the process of family reunification.

According to local media reports, the vote is expected to be a formality, as the majority of Swedish lawmakers, six out of eight parties, support the motion. Only the socialist Left Party and the liberal Centre Party speak out against the law, dubbing it inhumane.

The law was suggested by the Swedish government after the country received the record number of 160,000 asylum seekers in 2015.
