MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The United Kingdom's special forces are fighting alongside rebels in Syria to defeat Daesh terrorist organization, British media reported Monday, citing rebel commanders.

The British troops based in Jordan reportedly cross the border to assist the New Syrian Army (NSA), comprised of former Syrian special forces, when it defends village of Tanf in Syria'a southeast.

"They helped us with logistics, like building defences to make the bunkers safe," NSA 1st Lt. Mahmoud Saleh told The Times newspaper.

The daily also reported that, recently, the NSA base had been hit by a suicide attack and British troops helped to rebuild it.

Syria has been mired in civil war since March 2011, with government forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad fighting numerous opposition factions and extremist groups.

Daesh is outlawed in many countries around the world, including the United States and Russia.
