The population of the Dominican Republic will go to the polls on Sunday to elect the country's president and vice president, senators, lawmakers of the parliament and mayors of 158 cities.

MEXICO CITY (Sputnik) — According to media reports, representatives of 34 local political powers are expected to take part in the elections. The number of eligible voters stands at some 6.7 million people.

According to the latest polls, President Danilo Medina has the most popularity among the voters and is projected to receive 63 percent of votes during the first round of voting. Medina is followed by Luis Abinader representing the Modern Revolutionary Party with 31 percent of voters' support.

The preparation for the elections has come in the wake of the country's Junta Central Electoral chairman Roberto Rosario's statements on numerous cases of bribery of election commissions' members by political parties.
