Houthis Attack Military Camp, Endanger Yemen Peace Talks - Foreign Minister
13:53 GMT 01.05.2016 (Updated: 14:14 GMT 01.05.2016) Yemeni Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Mekhlafi blamed Houthi rebels` for jeopardizing the ongoing peace talks in Kuwait.
DUBAI (Sputnik) — The attack of Yemen’s main opposition force, Houthi rebels, on a governmental military facility in the Yemeni province of Amran threatens the ongoing peace talks in Kuwait, the country’s Foreign Minister Abdulmalik Mekhlafi said Sunday.
On Saturday, UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed met with parties to the Yemeni conflict in the framework of the new round of UN-backed talks on Yemen’s reconciliation, which began on April 21 in Kuwait.
"The attack [by Houthis] on the military base in Amran blows up peace consultations in Kuwait," Mekhlafi wrote in his official Twitter account.
He added that Sanaa would prepare retaliatory measures against the attack by Houthis.
Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the government headed by President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi rebels, which have been supported by army units loyal to former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh.
