WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Sunday, US media reported that Lieutenant Commander Edward Lin was charged with spying for China and Taiwan.

"I can’t speak to the substance of the allegations against the naval officer," Earnest stated. "I can just confirm for you that these charges have been filed, that there is an officer that is in custody."

The investigation into the case remains ongoing.

Lin, a native Taiwanese, moved to the United States at the age of 14 and later became a naturalized US citizen, according to media reports.
