The Russian center for Syrian reconciliation at the Hmeimim airbase delivered 4.4 metric tons of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people living in the country’s northern Aleppo province, the Russian Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, the center delivered another 3.2 tonnes of humanitarian aid to settlements in the Aleppo region.

“Over the past 24 hours, the Russian Center has transported 4.4 [metric] tons of humanitarian cargoes to the Aleppo province for further delivering aid to citizens of most damaged towns and villages,” the ministry said in a daily bulletin posted on its website.

The ministry added that the center held a meeting with representatives of the Syrian Ministry of National Reconciliation where the sides discussed the issues related to the delivery of the humanitarian aid.

Since 2011, Syria has been mired in a civil war, with government forces fighting a number of militant groups and opposition factions. According to the United Nations, some 6.6 million people have been internally displaced by the conflict, while an estimated 4.8 million have fled the country.
