Malaysian Team to Search for MH370 Debris on S. African, Mozambique Coasts

Malaysian experts will arrive to South Africa and Mozambique to examine debris which are supposed to be parts the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Malaysian experts will be sent to South Africa and Mozambique to examine debris possibly belonging to the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, Malaysian Transport Minister Liow Tiong Lai said Thursday.

"A team will be dispatched to retrieve the debris," The Western Australian daily quoted Liow as saying following two discoveries in the Indian Ocean.

In a statement published on his website the same day, Liow concluded that both pieces of debris sent to Australia for examination this week "almost certainly are from MH370."

"The location where both pieces were discovered in Mozambique are consistent with the drift modelling performed by the Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO)," he specified.

On Wednesday, Malaysian media quoted the minister as saying the team should arrive in South Africa by the end of this week.

The first piece of debris is said to have been found off the coast of Mozambique in December and reported to authorities after a second piece was found in early March.

Flight MH370, en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, disappeared from radar screens on March 8, 2014, less than an hour after takeoff. There were 227 passengers and 12 crew members on board the Boeing 777 aircraft.
