GENEVA (Sputnik) — UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura will meet with the Syrian opposition delegation on March 15, Syria's UN Ambassador Bashar Jaafari said Monday.
"De Mistura met with us today…Tomorrow De Mistura will meet with other delegations," Jaafari, who heads the government delegation at the proximity talks in Geneva told reporters.
Jaafari added that today's talks were constructive, as Damascus proposed and defined ideas for a political solution of the ongoing civil war in Syria.
The Syrian ambassador also expressed hope that de Mistura would consider those ideas during the meeting with the Syrian opposition on Tuesday.
Syria has been mired in civil war since 2011, with government forces loyal to President Bashar Assad fighting a number of opposition factions and extremist groups.
A new round of talks between the Syrian opposition and the country's government aimed to put an end to the conflict began in Geneva earlier in the day, and is expected to be over by March 24.
