MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Lawyers from Russia’s International Information Agency Rossiya Segodnya were refused entrance into Latvia where they were to participate in a court procedure on the refusal of registering one of the agency’s bureaus in Riga, the head of the agency’s legal department said Monday.
“Elena Timoshenkova and I arrived to Riga at around 10:00 in the morning [08:00 GMT]. We were planning to participate in a court session where we were to appeal the refusal of registering a bureau of our agency in Latvia, but at the passport control section, our passports were seized and we were made to wait for an hour and a half before being told that we are being deported and are indefinitely banned from entering Latvia because we allegedly present a threat to national security,” Evgeny Korolyov said.
Rossiya Segodnya is the state-run media group that includes RIA Novosti, Sputnik, R-Sport and other news providers.
