Local authorities said that 10 Daesh terrorists have surrendered their weapons in Afghanistan, making them the first members of the terrorist group to do so since it became active in the country.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Daesh (ISIL/ISIS) terrorists have surrendered their weapons in Afghanistan for the first time since the group became active in the country, local authorities said.

"For the first time, 10 so-called Daesh terrorists including their two commanders, along with ammunition, have joined the Afghan government peace process," a spokesman for the governor’s office in Afghanistan’s Nangarhar Province said, as quoted by The Japan Times on Friday.

According to the spokesman, 14 Taliban fighters joined the surrendered Daesh terrorists.

US Discusses With Russia Security Issues in Afghanistan – Kerry
Afghanistan is becoming more dangerous as it experiences political and social unrest amidst the ongoing conflict, as the Taliban movement and other radical extremist organizations such as Daesh, which has been condemned by countries  including the United States and Russia, continue to stage attacks against civilian and state targets.

Earlier this month, the Pentagon announced that the United States was stepping up efforts against Daesh and Taliban extremists in Afghanistan and that its pressure on the militants in the country’s eastern Nangarhar Province had recently increased.

Afghanistan has officially joined the international US-led coalition against Daesh. The decision came as Daesh terrorists expanded their presence in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The advances have forced Washington to give more authority to US forces to expand their mission in Afghanistan.
