The Chinese government has to make effort to curb the slowdown of export and import as soon as possible, Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang said Wednesday.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — He stressed that Beijing must firmly implement foreign trade support policy.

"It is necessary to make greater efforts to take control of the sharp slowdown of imports and exports as soon as possible, to prevent the slowdown from becoming a long-term trend," Wang said, as quoted by the Chinese Xinhua news agency.

On Monday, China’s General Administration of Customs data showed that exports fell 11.2 percent year-over-year in January, while imports tumbled by 18.8 percent.
