German Police on Bomb, Gun Attack Alert Amid New Year’s Eve Terror Fears
German police do not rule out that extremists might use bombs and guns for a terror attack during the New Year's Eve celebrations, a report by the Interior Ministry warned Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — With less than two days before millions take to the streets of Germany to celebrate the New Year, the ministry warned in the report, seen by the Bild newspaper, that in case of a terror attack, the use of "improvised explosive devices… or firearms or other dangerous objects" was possible.

Austrian intelligence services have warned that terrorists are likely to target sites of mass gatherings in European capitals during the holiday season.
German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere admitted later that Germany was "in crosshairs of international terrorism," like any other European nation.
A million of revelers are expected to mass near the landmark Brandenburg Gate in the heart of Berlin for New Year’s Eve celebrations. Police issued a warning on Monday saying that fireworks, handbags and backpacks were forbidden at the venue.
