RIGA (Sputnik) – According to the power operator, wind gusts reached speeds of 25 meters per second (56 miles per hour) on Friday night. Most of the damage to the power lines was caused by broken tree branches and falling trees, the power distribution company said in a Friday statement.
Special teams and equipment were mobilized to repair the power lines "as soon as possible in order to restore power to all customers," the statement stressed.
The Kuldīga region was most affected by the Friday windstorm, according to AS "Sadales tīkls," with over 1,000 customers having been left without power in the area.
AS "Sadales tīkls" is a power distribution company that ensures electricity supplies to over one million customers in Latvia, according to the company’s website.
