The Islamic State terrorists can take advantage of the anti-refugee rhetoric coming out of the United States, US President Barack Obama said on Wednesday.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — On Tuesday, US House Speaker Paul Ryan announced that a new congressional task force had introduced legislation to take a pause on the admittance of Syrian refugees. In addition, US Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz suggested to introduce a religious test for asylum seekers.

“I cannot think of a more potent recruitment tool for ISIL [Islamic state] than some of the rhetoric that’s been coming out of here [the United States],” Obama stated.

The US president said when “individuals in positions of responsibility” suggested “Christians are more worthy of protection than Muslims are in a war-torn land, that feeds the ISIL narrative.”

Obama noted the proposal that only Christian refugees should be admitted to the United States is offensive and contradicts American values. He also underscored that the ISIL seeks to exploit the idea of an alleged war between Islam and the West.
