The An-12 cargo plane crashed near South Sudan’s capital of Juba on Wednesday, killing dozens of people on board and on the ground. Thirty-six people were found dead at the crash site. Three passengers survived the crash, including a child.

An-12 Crash in South Sudan Kills 39, Including 1 Russian, 5 Armenians
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The Russian Foreign Ministry has confirmed the death of one Russian citizen in an An-12 cargo plane crash in South Sudan, ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said Thursday.

"I can now say that among the killed crew members of the An-12 that, as you know, crashed in South Sudan, there is a Russian citizen," Zakharova said at a briefing.

According to the plane’s manufacturer, the Antonov State Company, the aircraft was not permitted to fly as it had not undergone required maintenance.
