WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The popularity of a Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson has surged in the key swing state of Iowa as he leaped ahead of billionaire businessman Donald Trump, according to a new poll released on Thursday.
“Dr. Ben Carson leads Donald Trump 28 — 20 percent among Iowa likely Republican Caucus participants,” a new Quinnipiac University poll said.
Earlier in September, Trump was leading with 27 percent support of likely voters against Carson’s 21 percent.
"Today's results show his [Carson’s] appeal is especially strong among the state's sizeable white, evangelical Christian community, among whom Carson is receiving 36 percent, twice Trump's 17 percent," Quinnipiac University Poll Assistant Director Peter Brown said.
Nevertheless, Trump continues to lead in the other polls concerning the US Republican presidential candidates.
