Obama Has No Plans of Meeting With Iran President at UN General Assembly

Obama does not intend to meet with his Iranian counterpart at the United Nations General Assembly.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – US President Barack Obama does not intend to meet with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, a White House official said.

Ben Rhodes, Obama’s Deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communication said on Thursday that there are no plans of such a meeting.

According to the White House, Obama will meet with Cuban leader Raul Castro, as well as Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi. The US president plans to discuss the fight against climate change with Modi ahead of the December international conference on climate change, to be held in Paris.

Obama will also meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the fight against Islamic State (ISIL) radicals in Syria as well as the upcoming elections in Ukraine.

The annual meeting at the UN General Assembly where world leaders are invited to address the global audience is set to take place on September 28 — October 3.
