At least 15 people, mainly women and children, were killed in an airstrike by the Saudi-led international coalition in Dhamar Governorate in southwestern Yemen, a local security source told Sputnik on Tuesday.

SANAA (Sputnik) — According to the source, the airstrike, which injured over 20 people, initially targeted the house of former Yemeni Minister of Justice Ahmed Aqabat, who reportedly has connections to the Houthi militants.

More Civilians Killed by US Drone Strikes Than Al-Qaeda Terrorists
Since the beginning of the year, Yemen has been pulled apart by violence between Houthi rebels, who forced the country’s government to resign, and supporters of Yemen's president-in-exile Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

In late March, the Saudi Arabia-led coalition of nine Arab states began an aerial campaign against Houthi positions in Yemen at the request of the displaced leader. In late April, the coalition announced it would end its military operation in the country but the airstrikes have continued.

Last week, the fighting escalated significantly in Yemen. On Monday alone, 12 people, including four women and five children, were killed in an airstrike by the Saudi-led coalition in the Saada province in the north of the country.
