MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Afghanistan security forces killed more than 100 militants in operations in the past 24 hours, local media reported on Sunday citing a Defense Ministry statement.
According to Khaama Press news agency, 103 militants were killed, 97 wounded and 10 others detained during the operations, aimed against Taliban and other extremists.
As many as 17 Afghan soldiers were killed.
Afghanistan is suffering from internal unrest as the Taliban insurgent group is seeking to gain prominence in the country, fighting against government forces.
The Taliban increased its operations in the country after NATO withdrew its forces from Afghanistan in December 2014.
Taliban extremists are known to carry out terrorist attacks against state and civilian targets in the country.
