MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The US retailer Walmart plans to stop stocking assault rifles, semi-automatic shotguns and other weapons used in mass killings, a spokesman for Walmart has confirmed.
The decision to delist modern sports rifles was motivated by lagging sales, Walmart’s Senior Director for Corporate Communications Kory Lundberg told the pro-gun website BearingArms.com on Tuesday.
Walmart previously carried assault rifles in about a third of its stores, according to the website.
The discontinued weapons will be replaced with economical firearms, popular for sport hunting, Lundberg added.
The retailer has been criticized by numerous gun safety groups for selling firearms with high-capacity magazines of seven or more rounds, which are the typical kind of gun used in mass killings.
