Croatia held a large-scale military parade in the capital Zagreb on Tuesday, to mark the 20th anniversary of Operation Storm that resulted in the defeat of a Serbian entity within Croatia known as the Republic of the Serbian Krajina (RSK).

BELGRADE (Sputnik) — On August 4, 1995, the Croatian army launched Operation Storm against ethnic Serbs from the east of the country during the Croatian War of Independence. According to various estimates, from 214 to 1,192 civilians were killed or went missing.

Serbia called the operation the biggest ethnic cleansing since 1945.

On August 5, a national day of mourning will be declared in Serbia and Republika Srpska.

The unrecognized RSK was established during the civil war in the former Yugoslavia in 1991. The RSK included several regions that are currently the parts of eastern Croatia.
