WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The blasts occurred 30 minutes apart in Las Cruces, New Mexico, the release explained, near Calvary Baptist Church and Holy Cross Catholic Church.
“CAIR [Council on American-Islamic Relations]… urged that the bombings be investigated as possible hate crimes and that local police step up patrols in the vicinity of both churches,” the release said on Monday.
Although no one was hurt, anytime a house of worship is targeted Americans of all faiths should come together and support the entire community, the release argued.
CAIR recently expressed solidarity with a church community in Florida that was targeted by vandals and a Christian community following a string of fires at black churches.
On Monday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said it was still in the beginning stages of its investigation of the church bombings in New Mexico.
The New Mexico incidents come on the heels of a series of bombing investigations in the United States since Mohammad Youssef Abdulazeez killed five servicemen at the US Naval Research Center and the military recruiting center in Chattanooga, Tennessee last month.
On July 21, 2015, Tallahassee, Florida police began an investigation into a bomb threat against the Florida National Guard. That same day, Iowa police began investigating a bomb threat against a fertilizer plant.
