Eurozone Reaches Deal on Greek Debt, Ready for Credit Talks With Athens
PARIS (Sputnik) – The agreement on Greece’s bailout package reached during the Eurozone summit is exactly what France wanted, French President Francois Hollande said Monday.

The Eurozone leaders, including Hollande, held marathon talks on Greek debt crisis into Monday morning in a bid to reach an agreement on the terms of additional financial aid to Athens. On Monday, European Council President Donald Tusk said that the Eurozone leaders had reached a unanimous agreement on Greece’s economic crisis.

“During the talks an agreement was found. This is the agreement that France wanted and was able to reach. This agreement will allow Greece to remain in the Eurozone and it is not only in the interests of Greece, but also in the interests of all of Europe, including France,” Hollande said on BFMTV television.

Tusk said earlier in the day that the EU finance ministers will immediately start discussing how to help Greece meet its financial needs in the short term.

Greece owes $270 to its major international lenders — the European Central Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and Eurozone nations. In the end of June, Athens defaulted on the IMF 1.5-billion-euro ($1.7 billion) loan.
