MOSCOW (Sputnik) — It comes as an explosive device in the car in Longford County’s Forgney area in the north of the country was discovered by the police on Wednesday.
Local police detained four suspects following the incident, however, two of them were later released without charge, UTV Ireland channel reported on Friday.
A number of splinter groups have emerged since the main Irish republican paramilitary organization, the Provisional IRA, formally announced an end to its “armed struggle” with British forces to secure a united Ireland in 2005.
Each of these splinter groups claims to be the “rightful successor” of the title Irish Republican Army, but dissident republican groups do not have significant support in nationalist and republican areas of the North of Ireland.
