MOSCOW (Sputnik) Moscow strongly condemns the attack on a tourist resort near the Tunisian city of Sousse, the Russian Foreign Ministry said Friday.

The death toll of Friday's attack in eastern Tunisia, where two gunmen opened fire on a hotel, has reached 37, Al Mayadeen television reported, citing the country's health ministry.

"Moscow strongly condemns this brutal act of terrorism against Tunisian and foreign civilians, aimed at undermining stability and security in friendly Tunisia. We consider this incident a heinous crime which does not have and cannot have any justification," the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry called to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice and expressed condolences to the victims' families.

"We call on Tunisian authorities to take all possible measures to prevent the recurrence of such tragedies in the future, and ensure the safe stay of foreign citizens in the country," the statement reads.

According to the local media reports, the police have identified the killed in the the attack gunmen as a Tunisian national from the town of Gaafour in the northern Siliana Governorate. Another suspect was detained by the police.

The incident follows a deadly terrorist attack on the Tunis Bardo National Museum in March. Two Tunisians and 20 foreign tourists died, and two of the three gunmen were killed.
