EU's Anti-Russia Sanctions 'Not Truly European Approach' - Greek Lawmaker
MOSCOW (Sputnik) The EU anti-Russia sanctions are aimed at pleasing the United States, Lidia Senra, a member of the European Parliament, told Sputnik on Wednesday.

"A political decision that affects agriculture was taken, which doesn’t have a role in this and is very damaging. The aim is to please the United States," Senra said.

Senra stated that she was against the restrictions the West imposed on Russia for its alleged role in the Ukrainian crisis.

"This sanctions war does not work, Europe should have a different type of relations with Russia," Senra stressed, adding that such policies only harm citizens.

The European Union on Monday extended its anti-Russia sanctions, which have been in place since last year, for a further six months. The sanctions target Moscow’s defense, banking and energy sectors, as well as several individuals.

Moscow has repeatedly denied any involvement in the Ukrainian crisis, and introduced a year-long embargo on food imports from the countries that imposed sanctions against it. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, an extension of the embargo will be processed swiftly.
