Shooting at Indian Reservation in New York State Leaves 2 People Injured

The New York State Police said in a statement that two people were injured during a shooting at the Shinnecock Indian Reservation.

NEW YORK (Sputnik) — Two people were injured during a shooting at the Shinnecock Indian Reservation, the New York State Police said in a statement on Monday.

“The victims, who were identified as local residents, were reportedly attending a memorial service on the reservation when an altercation involving gunfire erupted,” the statement read.

Reports of gun violence came during the early hours of Monday morning, police added.

One of the victims needed to be airlifted to a local hospital.

The Shinnecock Indian Nation is a federally recognized tribe of Algonquian-speaking people, according to the US Bureau of Indian Affairs. The reservation is located in eastern Long Island, New York.
