Madison Police Clears Officer of Unarmed Teenager's Death

The Madison Police Department found that the Officer who fatally shot an unarmed African-American teenager in March did not violate any policies on use of force.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Madison Police Department found that Officer Matthew Kenny who fatally shot an unarmed African-American teenager Tony Robinson in March did not violate any policies on use of force, according to local media reports.

Kenny was cleared of the killing in an internal department investigation, NBC News said on Wednesday.

On March 6, Officer Kenny fatally shot Robinson after they got into a confrontation in a home where the teen had fled.

Following the incident, nearly 1,500 people took to the streets of Madison and demanded the arrest of Officer Kenny and the city’s police began bracing for unrest.

On May 12, a district attorney cleared Kenny in a criminal probe ruling that the use of force against Robinson was “lawful.”

Police brutality and racial profiling continues to be a major concern in the United States. The issue has made headlines as numerous, sometimes violent protests have swept the country amid a string of police killings of mostly African-Americans.
