KATHMANDU (Sputnik) – The Russian plane was given about 30 minutes for landing, passenger loading and takeoff in Nepal's capital. The Antonov An-148 jet aircraft, which left Moscow on May 1, arrived in Kathmandu at about 03:00 local time on Monday (21:15 GMT on Sunday).
"There are a total of 36 Russian citizens on board the plane," head of the ministry's Nepal rescue squad Alexander Romanov told RIA Novosti in the early hours of Monday, adding that the evacuees are being accompanied by medics and psychologists.
Apart from evacuating Russian citizens, the plane also delivered a group or rescue workers, who will join the Russian Emergencies Ministry rescue squad already working in Nepal.
Last week, two Russian planes with about 100 rescuers and medical staff on board evacuated 128 people, including 91 Russian citizens, from the country.
A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Nepal on April 25. Its epicenter was located about 50 miles northwest of Kathmandu.
The earthquake and its numerous powerful aftershocks claimed the lives of over 7,000 people, including dozens of climbers who were hit by earthquake-triggered avalanches on Mount Everest.
Countries across the world have offered Nepal both financial and practical assistance to cope with the aftermath of the disaster.
