Nepal Earthquake Death Toll Reaches 7,000 - Emergency Operation Center

The death toll after last week’s devastating earthquake in Nepal has reached 7,040, CNN reported Saturday, citing Nepal’s National Emergency Operation Center.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Another 14,398 people were injured in the disaster.

On April 25, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake took place about 82 kilometers (51 miles) northwest of Nepal's capital Kathmandu. Tremors of the earthquake could also be felt in neighboring India, Bangladesh, China and Bhutan.

Some 3.5 million people are currently in need of food assistance and thousands have been left homeless in the disaster, according to the United Nations.

Countries across the world have offered Nepal both financial and practical assistance to cope with the disaster.
