“Moscow, as well as many other countries in the region, is convinced that a military solution for Yemen is out of the question,” the ministry statement reads.
The statement continued by pointing out that a peaceful solution to the crisis in Yemen should be found that takes in the interests of all Yemenis.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also expressed hope that the United Nations would continue efforts to resolve the crisis.
On Tuesday, the UN Security Council passed a resolution to ban weapons sales to the Houthis who have been fighting forces loyal to displaced Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
Russia had abstained in the vote. Russia's Foreign Ministry warns that the resolution should not be used "for further escalation of the confrontation" in Yemen.
Russia had called on the United Nations to demand an immediate ceasefire, while also stressing the need for humanitarian pauses and for the arms embargo to be imposed on all conflicting sides in Yemen.
Yemen has been in a state of turmoil since the Houthi militants gained control of large parts of the country, including capital Sanaa, prompting President Hadi to ask the Arab League for military aid and then flee the country.
According to UN estimates, at least 736 people, including 364 civilians, have been killed and 2,700 more injured since the Saudi Arabian-led coalition began conducting airstrikes against Houthi positions in Yemen on March 25.
