A meeting on April 14 between Libyan Prime Minister Abdullah Thinni and Russian President Vladimir Putin is not scheduled, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Friday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Earlier on Friday, the Libyan prime minister’s press service told Sputnik that Thinni would arrive in Moscow on April 14.

“No, the president doesn’t have such a meeting in his schedule,” Peskov said.

Russian Ambassador to Libya Ivan Molotkov said on Thursday that bilateral cooperation, including ways Russia can help settle the situation in the Arab republic, will be on the agenda of the upcoming visit.

Libya Asks Moscow to Train Its Army, Supply Modern Weaponry
Over the past year, Libya has seen a major wave of violence, including attempts by the Islamic State jihadist group to advance in the country.

There are currently two rival governments in Libya, and the group controlling the capital Tripoli, dominated by the Muslim Brotherhood, is not recognized internationally.

Last month, Libyan Army General Khalifa Haftar told Sputnik that the Libyan delegation would discuss the provision of weapons during its upcoming Moscow visit.

Libya is currently subject to a UN arms supply embargo, imposed in 2011 over violence against civilians by the country’s former leadership.
