Eurofighter Jets Ready for Sale to India if Rafale Deal Fails
MOSCOW (Sputnik) – India and France may finally strike a deal on purchasing French Rafale fighter jets on Friday, a source in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs told Sputnik.

Talks on the Rafale deal will be high on the agenda during the meeting between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Francois Hollande, the source said.

Some of the parts for the Rafale are likely to be made in India as a part of India's “Made in India” concept. France was not willing to give assurance to this earlier.

In 2012, India approached French aircraft manufacturer Dassault Aviation to supply the country with 126 Rafale fighter jets, turning down a proposal from the producers of the Eurofighter Typhoon.

The project was later put on hold in light of high costs and Dassault's unwillingness to guarantee the performance of Rafale aircraft produced in India under license agreements.

Earlier media reports suggested that India might pull out of the $20 billion deal with France, eyeing Russian and UK fighter jets as potential replacements should the Rafale deal be canceled altogether.
