KIEV (Sputnik) Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk has called on the country's parliament to annul the immunity currently in place for Ukrainian lawmakers and judges as soon as the Constitutional Court deems the change would not violate the country's constitution.

The Ukrainian Constitutional Court began looking into the amendment last week.

"We expect that the parliament will abolish the full immunity for both the members of parliament and the judicial branch of government by 300 votes," Yatsenyuk said during the first session of Ukraine's constitutional commission.

Parliamentary and judicial immunity are provisioned in the constitution of Ukraine, but the coalition agreement, signed by the five parliamentary majority parties, stipulates lifting immunity for parliament members.

Constitutional amendments require lengthy procedure. After a positive verdict by the Constitutional Court, the Parliament may pass a bill in the first reading with 226 votes. But the next session of Parliament will require at least 300 votes to adopt the law.

Ukraine's parliament in February sent a presidential bill to abolish the parliamentary immunity and to limit immunity of judges to the examination by the Constitutional Court and the Venice Commission.
