MOSCOW (Sputnik) – Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta declared three days of national mourning after Thursday deadly attack on Garissa University College, which left 147 people dead.
“As we mourn together, and pray together for the fallen and for this our precious Republic of Kenya, I declare three days of national mourning during which our flag shall fly at half-mast," Kenyatta said in a televised address to the nation.
On Thursday, armed Islamists attacked Garissa college, killing 147 people and injuring over 100. Of those wounded, 19 people remain in a critical condition.
The Somalia-based al-Shabaab group, which has pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the attack.
On Friday, Kenyan Interior Minister Joseph Ole Nkaissery said the police had detained five suspects allegedly linked to the attack.
