More than 90 police officers were wounded and over 100 protesters affected by tear gas during the morning rally when crowds protested against austerity measures.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Around 8,500 have gathered in central Frankfurt for a new protest against Europe's austerity measures, the local police said in a statement Wednesday.

A rally is currently underway in the German city, with another one scheduled for 5 p.m. local time (16:00 GMT).

Number of Protesters in Frankfurt Anti-Austerity Rally Could Reach 20,000
The fresh rallies follow the Blockupy activist group's clashes with police outside the new European Central Bank building, earlier in the day.

More than 90 police officers were wounded and over 100 protesters affected by tear gas during the morning rally, according to various sources.

From hundreds to thousands people took to the streets of Frankfurt, earlier in the day to protest austerity measures, especially those imposed on Greece recently.
