MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Houthi rebels, who ceased power in Yemen, on Monday released the country's Prime Minister Khaled Bahah and all cabinet members after nearly two months of house arrest, Bahah said as quoted by his official Facebook's page on Monday.
Bahah, who resigned in January after the Yemeni Houthis opposition movement captured the presidential palace, described his release as a "goodwill gesture" meant to push forward talks on Yemen's political process. However, the prime minister stated that he had no desire to resume his duties after his release.
"This comes as an expression of sincere good intentions… [The government] confirms it does not desire to return to its duties in light of the exceptional circumstances," Bahah wrote.
Power in Yemen is currently in the hands of the Ansar Allah Houthi rebel group. In late January, Yemeni President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi and the country's government resigned after Houthis rebels captured the presidential palace and government buildings.
On February 6, Houthis dissolved the Yemeni parliament and created a presidential council in a "constitutional declaration."
