UK's Labour Party Fear Growing Popularity of SNP Ahead of General Elections

Senior members of the United Kingdom's Labour party are increasingly worried ahead of the 2015 general election as the Scottish National Party (SNP) is maintaining the support of the 45 percent of Scots who voted "Yes" in the 2014 independence referendum, The Independent reported Monday.

MOSCOW, February 2 (Sputnik) – A recent study by the University of Strathclyde indicates that with the support of the "Yes" voters, the SNP could win up to 45 out of 59 Scotland's seats. At the moment, the SNP holds just six Scottish seats, while the Labour party has 41.

In this happens, the Conservative party would sustain its leadership in the House of Commons, Labour would be take second place, while the SNP could bypass the Liberal Democrats.

A general election is scheduled for May 2015 in the United Kingdom, when voters will elect representatives to sit in the House of Commons – the country's lower house of parliament.

The two major rivals in the upcoming elections are the Conservative Party, headed by British Prime Minister David Cameron, and the Labor party ruled by Ed Miliband.
