The agency's correspondent at the scene reported the attackers were Taha Samir Khayal and Bilal Mohammed Mare'yan, also known as Ibrahim. They are believed to have links to the violent Islamic State (IS) movement, which has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Lebanese health minister called on residents of the neighboring areas to donate their blood to help those wounded in the bombings. A curfew will in place in northern Lebanon until Sunday morning, the city administration said earlier.

On Saturday, a twin blast hit a coffee shop in the Jabal Mohsen district in Tripoli. Northern Lebanon has seen numerous sparks of violence in recent months as tensions from the military conflict in neighboring Syria have spilled over to the country.
