White House press secretary Josh Earnest claimed that US President Barack Obama and his administration continue to be optimistic about midterm elections outcome.

WASHINGTON, November 4 (RIA Novosti) – US President Barack Obama and his administration are optimistic that the Democrats will win the Senate, White House press secretary Josh Earnest said on Tuesday.

"The President and everybody here at the White House continue to be optimistic," Earnest said answering the question if Obama agrees with the US Vice-President Joe Biden on his assessment that Democrats will win the Senate.

On Tuesday, Americans will elect 36 senators, 435 congressmen, 36 governors and 46 state legislatures in what is called midterm elections as they occur in the middle of the sitting president's four-year term.

Last US Congress was compiled of predominantly Republican House of Representatives and primarily Democratic Senate. All recent polls show that Republicans are very likely to win the Senate and hold onto the House in 2014 congressional elections.
