MOSCOW, April 24 (R-Sport) – The government of Sverdlovsk region said Wednesday plans to double the amount of funding it provides Ural Yekaterinburg, in the line with the football club’s promotion to the Russian Premier League next season.

Ural secured the promotion Tuesday after Spartak Nalchik drew 1-1 with Rotor Volgograd, leaving it mathematically impossible for them to push Ural out of the automatic positions in the second-tier Football National League. The team hasn’t played in the RPL since 1996.

“It was decided by the board of directors of the club to double the club’s funding,” according to an online statement from Sverdlovsk’s regional government.

According to the statement, the board has already reviewed a list of potential player acquisitions, though it was not clear who the club is targeting.

Financial details about the budget-shuffling were not immediately available Wednesday.

Ural played in the Russian top flight between 1992 and 1996 under the name Uralmash, never finishing higher than eighth.

Once renovated, their home stadium in Yekaterinburg will host games during the 2018 World Cup.
