KHL team Traktor Chelyabinsk is capable of big things next season and the team's ex-NHL goaltender Michael Garnett wants nothing less than the Gagarin Cup, hesaid Tuesday.

Traktor lost 4-1 to Avangard Omsk in the KHL Eastern Conference final last season.

"Our team's very similar to what he had last year, and I think we're capable of a lot," Garnett said on the KHL website.

"We had a very strong squad and we just tried to improve some positions."

He added that the team could fall short of last season's achievements.

"You have to understand that what happened one time won't necessarily be repeated but we should have a good try. My target's the Gagarin Cup and that's what I'll be aiming for."

Garnett, 29, joined Traktor from fellow KHL team Dynamo Moscow in 2011.

His career record includes 24 appearances for the Atlanta Thrashers in the NHL.

Traktor's summer signings include forward Juhamatti Aaltonen, a world championship winner with Finland last year.

The new KHL season starts September 4.
