The United States swept into the men’s Olympic basketball final Friday with another blowout victory, hammering Argentina 109-83 as LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Durant ran riot.
Durant top-scored with 19 points, while Anthony and James each made 18, with James also adding seven assists and seven rebounds.
The United States won all four quarters, but Argentina were able to keep pace in the first half, pegging the score at 47-40 at half-time before the U.S. pulled away, winning the third quarter 27-17 and the fourth 35-26.
For Argentina, San Antonio Spurs shooting guard Manu Ginobili led the charge with 18 points, while Kevin Love made a big contribution off the bench for United States with nine points and nine rebounds.
In Saturday’s final, the U.S. take on European champions Spain as they bid to emulate the 1992 Dream Team’s run to gold in what may be the last Olympic tournament to include top NBA stars.
