The Bahamas raced to the Olympic gold medal in a dramatic men's 4x400 meters relay on Friday.

Ramon Miller of the Bahamas chased down veteran U.S. runner Angelo Taylor in the final 50 meters for gold in two minutes, 56.72 seconds.

"The US guys know we've been just behind them or thereabouts for a long time, but it's amazing we are finally taking home the gold," Miller said.

"This is for everyone back home. We can't wait to celebrate."

The U.S., 16 times Olympic champion in the event, clocked 2.57.05, with Trinidad and Tobago taking bronze in 2:59.40.

It was the Bahamas' first gold in track and field, also brought home by Chris Brown, Michael Mathieu and Demetrius Pinder.

Taylor, the 2000 and 2008 gold medalist in the 400m hurdles, said he found the going hard.

"It was tough. I thought I could get home but it was exceptionally close."
