Australian fifth seed Sam Stosur suffered a shock second-round defeat to world No. 72 Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

Stosur seemed to have recovered after dropping the first set, but the 21-year-old left-hander came back for a 6-2, 0-6, 6-4 victory.

Rus, whose previous Grand Slam best is the fourth round at last month's French Open, will now face either 30th seed Peng Shuai of China or Japan's Ayumi Morita.

Elsewhere, Roland Garros finalist Sara Errani blasted past Coco Vandeweghe of the United States 6-1, 6-3 to reach the second round.

The next opponent of the tenth-seeded Italian will be British player Anne Keothavong, ranked 77 in the world.
