Russia held off a late charge to beat Spain 41-37 in rugby's European Nations Cup in Moscow on Saturday.

The try scorers for Russia were Northampton Saints wing Vasily Artemyev, who grabbed one in each half, lock Denis Antonov and wing Vladimir Ostroushko.

Russia survived most of the second half with 14 men after a player was sent off for a dangerous spear tackle.

It was Russia's third win of the ENC campaign after a last-gasp 33-32 away defeat of Portugal in February and a 38-19 victory over Ukraine last month.

Those plus two defeats, to Romania 25-0 and to Georgia 46-0, put Russia fourth in the ENC table on 12 points, the same as the top three Romania, Spain and Georgia.

The Georgians, however, have next month's game against Ukraine in hand.
