South Africa's former world champion 800 meter runner Caster Semenya, who was suspended for 11 months to undergo gender tests, has made the London Olympic team, the IAAF said Saturday.

The 21-year-old ran 1:59.6 seconds at the national championships in Pretoria, 0.3 seconds inside the Olympic qualification mark.

"Caster Semenya utilized home ground advantage to secure her London Olympic dreams," the IAAF website said.

Semenya at the age of 19 became a world champion in Berlin in 2009, but her gender was doubted by officials due to her masculine body and voice.

The IAAF forced the athlete to pass gender tests, and suspended her until in July 2010, when it was announced that Semenya was female and could continue her career.

Semenya ran the London qualifying time at the Daegu world championships last year, when she finished second behind Russia's Maria Savinova.

But South Africa's national rules said she had to do it again to qualify for London.
